http://buenosaires.queercity.info/
Buenos Aires is the gateway to Argentina and whether you are tourist heading for the impressive water falls at Iguazu, wine-tasting in Mendoza, skiing at Bariloche, whale-watching at the Peninsula Valdes, glacier walking at Perito Moreno, heading for the Antarctic from Ushuaia, or boarding a gay cruise ship, you should not fail to spend some time in the city. Buenos Aires, Argentina offers not only stylish architecture (the city is not called the Paris of South America for nothing), but also pavement cafes, steak restaurants (and what lucious beef) and cheap shopping. Over the last two years Buenos Aires has become well known for its liberal attitude to gay life so that it has become the destination of choice for gay tourists to South America. Buenos Aires now has many gay discos, bars, hotels, saunas, movie theaters, and Argentina has possibly the best-looking men you will see anywhere.

Gay Lima, Peru -

Peru is a spectacular country with much to offer tourists and travellers. There are the well-known destinations like Cuzco and Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Nazca Lines, Paracas, and the Amazon Rainforest. Less well-known but equally worth a visit if time allows are the highest passenger railway in the world between Lima and Huancayo, the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Blanca near Huaraz, the amazing pre-Inca Kuelap fortress near Chachapoyas, and the gold treasure of Sipan near Chiclayo. Most travellers to Peru only spend a day or two in Lima before leaving to discover the rest of the country. This guide for gay visitors will direct you straight to the best spots (and maybe encourage you to spend a little longer in Lima, Peru).

Gay Quito, Ecuador -

Most people who travel to Ecuador come to experience the variety of landscapes, climates, cultures, fauna and flora that this small country has to offer. Many tourists visiting Ecuador go to the amazing Galapagos Islands. However the rest of Ecuador has a great deal to offer. About the size of the state of Colorado, Ecuador has the highest population density of any South American country and also has a high proportion of indigenous people with their unique cultures and languages. Added to that Ecuador offers a tropical coast-line with Guayaquil as the largest city in Ecuador; snow-capped volcanoes such as Cotopaxi and Chimborazo with an altitude of approximately 6000m; highland market towns like Otavalo and Saquisili; the historic colonial town of Cuenca; Amazon rain-forest with its unique bio-diversity, and the capital city of Quito located practically on the Equator which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ecuador has undergone a remarkable transformation in the last few years. On 10th August 1998 the constitution of Ecuador was reformed to "recognise the equality of all before the law without discrimination against age, sex, ethnic orgin, colour, religion, political affiliation, economic position, sexual orientation, state of health, incapacity, or difference of any kind." Quito, Ecuador has a small but thriving gay scene which can mostly be found in the district of Mariscal (known as Gringolandia becuase of its many hostels catering for foreign travelers).

Gay Santiago, Chile -

There are plenty of reasons to visit Chile as a tourist with a great variety of destinations. Imagine travelling from south to north in this very long and narrow country then you would start at Punta Arenas followed by Puerto Natales and see the nearby spectacular Torres del Paine National Park. You could then travel by sea through the channels and fjords of Patagonia past the island of Chiloe and arrive at Puerto Montt. From there it is possible to tour round the beautiful lakes and volcanoes district near Osorno. You could then be either skiing at one of the many ski resorts in the Andes like Valle Nevado or Termas de Chillan, or on a Pacific coast beach with Viña del Mar being the most well-known, or visiting the historic and picturesque port of Valparaiso. Much further north is the desert of Atacama - said to be the driest place on earth. Then leaving mainland Chile entirely you could see the astonishing stone statues on Easter Island. Gay visitors to Santiago will find the scene fairly open although it is probably more conservative than Buenos Aires. Many of the gay discos and bars in Santiago, Chile are located in the Barrio Bellavista at the foot of Cerro San Cristobal. The nearest Metro station is Baquedano in Plaza Italia from where you cross Av. Providencia then cross the bridge over the Rio Mapocho and you are in the Barrio.

Gay Rio de Janeiro -
http://www.riogaylife.com/
Every year an ever increasing number of gay guys head down to Rio in search of an
exciting and "hot" gay holiday destination. They are going to the right place. In the recent years
Rio has become an excellent choice for the gay traveller. As the weather is hot all year round,
the beaches are all loaded with eye candy all day long. Rio is more than just a beach resort, it's
a city of more than six million people. No matter what time of the year, there will always be lots
to do. True, the peak season of the gay Rio vacation is New Year's and Carnival but that's not to
say the rest of year is dead. The Rio gay scene is centred in Ipanema, with its huge gay beach,
trendy restaurants, and quite unique gay bars. Going to the beach is a cult for both gay and
straight Cariocas. Rio has one of the strongest beach cultures ever seen in any coastal city
around the world. That probably explains the fact there aren't more gay night clubs and bars on
the Rio gay scene - Cariocas enjoy the day too much. And the gay beach itself is like a huge gay
bar/club where you can chat and cruise for hours and go swimming to boot.
This web site is not one of the Queercity stable but as a valuable resource in English about a
queer South American city it deserves inclusion.
